Papers from the White and Holland families of Fluvanna County, Virginia, 1839-1959.

The collection contains corresondence, business and legal papers, genealogical information and miscellaneous items. Correspondence chiefly conveys news of family and friends with mentions of cooking and sewing, farming, health and weather. Financial and legal papers contain tax records, cancelled checks, receipts, wills, and estate settlement documents. Miscellaneous items include unidentified photographs, poetry, fabric samples, sewing patterns, a school notebook and Arm & Hammer Baking soda collectible animal cards. Items of interest include a few Civil War letters, particularly one written by a young lady at Farmville Female College in 1864, and a letter from Chaffin's Farm, 1865 mentioning lack of food and the Virginia Peace Commission; a militia roll, 1862 March 21, of Company 1, 12th Regiment Virginia Militia; and a receipt for the sale of a slave "Major," 1863 June 25.
